Marilyn PeetersJan 7 to Jan 29, 2011

The public is invited to the opening reception for Marilyn Peeters forest landscapes exhibition entitled Through Emotions Eyes at the Muir Gallery on January 7, 2011 from 7-9 pm along with special musical guest Alan Jossul.

Marilyn is a multi media artist working and residing in the Comox Valley. She moved to the Valley in the early 80’s where she extended her knowledge of art working as a versatile artist. She volunteered with the Co-Val Choristers theatre group gaining extensive practice as a set designer and painter. Because of her experience, many of the downtown merchants offered her mural jobs. Soon after, she completed her studies in art with a Fine Arts Diploma through North Island College and in 2009 her Bachelors of Fine Arts with Emily Carr University. Marilyn has exhibited her work at the Comox Airport, Muir Gallery, Comox Valley Art Gallery, in private collections, restaurants, and internationally in Dubai commercial galleries. Marilyn’s values, experiences, and spirituality reflect in her art and she has a strong passion for the natural environment. When not working on location, she uses her photography as a means of notation to trigger her memories, sensations, and imagination so that she may revisit her ephemeral experience of nature with paint. Each of her landscape paintings refers to a particular environment of the local area, yet they are unidentifiable. Often her brush strokes are long and expressive and her colour choices do not represent reality. Instead, she works from a personal vision of how she perceives it. In each piece, she experiments with various colour palettes; often she uses texture or a layering technique to create vibration and luminosity. She explores a sensorial perception of nature through her painting process creating a mood through abstraction that retains a representation of the natural environment.
