LOCAL COLOURS FESTIVAL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ARTISTS & PERFORMERS - JULY 20 &21

The Comox Valley Community Arts Council is looking for artists and performers who are interested in participating in the 7th annual Local Colours FestivalJuly 20 to 21, 2012. All participants must be local to the Comox Valley. The participants will represent all levels of skill sets; from emerging to professional. Local Colours 2012 will highlight the positive impact arts and culture have on community, and demonstrate the sound business sense of supporting our local talent. This years festival will be held during the 42nd year of the annual Market Day held by the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association. This connection will increase the visibility of arts and culture in our community and will bring in spectators that would not normally attend or have access to such cultural opportunities. The Festival will connect our local residents and help to define our community’s capacities as an arts and culture producing centre.

Be adventurous!  Be daring!  We will be watching for diversity, variety of media, enthusiasm, creativity and new ideas that local businesses will want to host in their locations.  Musicians, dancers, performers, poets, videographers, photographers, carvers, sculptors, potters, painters, cartoonists, composers, fibre artists or other interactive arts– we’re waiting for you!  A selection of diverse local talents will perform or create work on the streets and in businesses over two days beginning Thursday July 20. For artists, creation of art work will take place July 20 & 21 and you will be asked to interact with the crowd during the Main Event hosted by the 42nd annual Market Day on July 21th (this is a chance to showcase your work and speak to the crowd). For performers, there will be a main event stage on July 21 and a variety of street locations available throughout the day.
