LOCAL COLOURS FESTIVAL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ARTISTS & PERFORMERS - JULY 20 &21

The Comox Valley Community Arts Council is looking for artists and performers who are interested in participating in the 7th annual Local Colours Festival July 20 to 21, 2012. All participants must be local to the Comox Valley. The participants will represent all levels of skill sets; from emerging to professional. Local Colours 2012 will highlight the positive impact arts and culture have on community, and demonstrate the sound business sense of supporting our local talent. This years festival will be held during the 42nd year of the annual Market Day held by the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association. This connection will increase the visibility of arts and culture in our community and will bring in spectators that would not normally attend or have access to such cultural opportunities. The Festival will connect our local residents and help to define our community’s capacities as an arts and culture producing centre.

The CVAG and CVCAC co-present this exhibition which features a diversity of artwork by the Comox Valley visual arts community. All genres of visual arts will be exhibited...examples are drawings, paintings, prints, multi-media, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and fibre arts.

Artwork will be accepted at Comox Valley Art Gallery, 580 Duncan Avenue, Courtenay on Saturday February 25 and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday February 27, 28, 29, 2012 from 10am - 5pm

CVCAC is accepting proposals for workshops/demos in all artistic genres for our winter series. We are seeking innovative ways to provide instruction or engage our community in the arts that are not already offered by other arts organizations. We are open to anything from 2 hours to 6 weeks. As the host we will provide use of the Muir Gallery, registration, collection and dissemination of fees and limited marketing. As the instructor you will provide information to market the workshop, commitment to development/fulfillment of your workshop, any supplies required for your course, and any additional marketing. We do have access to some facilitation equipment, just ask if you need something and we will see what we can do.

The Originals Only Fine Art Show is organized by a group of Comox Valley artists who volunteer their time and energy to help other artists show and sell their work. They come from a wide variety of disciplines and groups within the fine art community.

Deadline for submissions is July 15th 2011.

August 2011 to March 2013

Submission deadline May 1, 2012.

The Comox Valley Airport has the unique perspective of providing the first point of entry for many Northern Vancouver Island tourists. Part of the airport's responsibility is to help form our passengers' first perceptions of the Comox Valley and Northern Vancouver Island. This provides an ideal opportunity for YQQ to host an annual Art exhibition featuring the work of artists residing in the airport's catchment area (see residential requirements below). In this call for submission, the airport is seeking two and three dimensional art pieces that are representative of the unique region of Northern Vancouver Island and/or the individual communities within this region. Art submissions may be in the form of paintings, original prints, photography, mixed media, textiles and/or sculpture.
